PGY-1

The core of first year training is in Internal Medicine. Eight blocks of inpatient service are held at Broward Health North. One block each is spent at the Emergency Department and medical ICU. Two blocks consist of neurology rotations in the stroke service.

PGY-2

The first year of Neurology is weighted towards inpatient care. Eight blocks are spent on the neurology wards and epilepsy monitoring unit at BHN. Outpatient subspecialty selective rotations begin this year, as 2-week rotations each in epilepsy, EEG, behavioral health, and neuroradiology, with variable location at BHN, BH Imperial Point, and the Neurology Institute. A month of pediatric neurology is completed at the BHMC Children’s hospital. Another month is available for residents to pursue training in elective rotations of choice. Weekly half-day outpatient continuity clinics start this year and run throughout the completion of residency training.

PGY-3

The second year of neurology training is geared towards consultations. Residents spend 8 blocks on the inpatient consultation and stroke service at Broward Health North. Selectives consist of 2-week blocks, focusing on neuro-rehabilitation, epilepsy, electromyography, and neuro-ophthalmology. One block is reserved for a second month rotation in pediatric neurology at BHMC. Another block is reserved for residents to pursue training in areas of interest through elective rotations.

PGY-4

During the final year of training the resident assumes greater supervision and teaching responsibilities towards junior residents and medical students, revisiting prior services: 4 blocks in the consultation and stroke service, and 4 blocks in the inpatient ward and EMU. One month is dedicated to psychiatry at BH Imperial Point. Another month completes pediatric neurology training at BHMC. Two blocks are reserved for PGY-4 residents to pursue training in areas of interest through elective rotations.
