Welcome from Program Director

I am pleased to tell you about the General Surgery Residency training program at Broward Health! Led by an enthusiastic and dedicated faculty of qualified, board-certified multi-specialty surgeons, our program is built on the premises of fostering a hands-on educational and clinical experience, while maintaining a commitment to high quality patient care.

Our mission at Broward Health is to provide the surgical residents with a well-rounded education that will prepare them to be competent surgeons regardless of the type of practice they eventually choose to undertake.  With a consortium of 4 teaching hospitals and over 40,000 surgical cases performed annually, the residents are exposed to an invaluable clinical experience.  Our robust didactic curriculum provides weekly, monthly, and quarterly basic and clinical science lectures, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, Grand Rounds, and simulation laboratory skills which promote individual growth while always prioritizing resident wellness. By serving and supporting our resident’s needs, our faculty physicians strive to propel and prepare them to enter the field equipped for independent practice as surgeons.

Residents in our program will complete core and specialty rotations in General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Head and Neck Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Robotics, Bariatric Surgery, Endoscopy, Surgical Critical Care, Trauma, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Transplantation, Vascular Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and the Emergency Department. The high volume of patients, diverse patient population, and state of the art surgical facilities afford our residents a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive surgical experience from the first day of their five-year residency.  For those who wish to pursue fellowship training after residency, we provide protected research time during the 5-year curriculum to strengthen the applicant's qualifications.

Thank you for your interest in the General Surgery Residency at Broward Health. I encourage you to contact us with any questions related to our program and what we have to offer.
