Following are detailed descriptions of the rotation for each post-graduate year of training in the Infectious Disease program.
Rotation Descriptions
INFECTIOUS DISEASE ROTATIONS
Transplant Rotation
The Transplant Infectious Disease rotation provides infectious disease fellows with the opportunity to observe the outpatient management of post-solid organ transplant patients experiencing infectious disease complications. Additionally, the clinic assesses patients prior to transplantation, focusing on comprehensive screening evaluations, pre-transplant vaccinations, prophylaxis, and risk reduction strategies.
Pediatric Infectious Diseases
The Infectious Disease rotation offers fellows the opportunity to manage all aspects of infectious diseases while studying their pathogens, prevention, transmission, and treatment in children. This includes a focus on diseases caused by bacteria, mycobacteria, parasites, and viruses.
Public Health (TB Clinic)
The Tuberculosis Clinic provides infectious disease fellows with the opportunity to observe the evaluation and management of patients with both latent and active TB infections.
General Infectious Disease
All Infectious Disease fellows participate in a 24-month continuity clinic experience. Fellows are assigned to one or more designated clinic sites, with the clinic held one half-day per week. Each fellow is paired with an on-site faculty mentor who provides direct supervision and guidance.
The continuity clinic experience involves evaluating and managing patients with a wide range of infectious disease conditions. Many patients are hospital follow-ups, often receiving outpatient antibiotic therapy, while others are outpatient referrals for consultation when infectious diseases are part of the differential diagnosis.
Ambulatory Clinic - HIV Continuity Care Clinic
The trainees participate in an Infectious Diseases continuity clinic. This outpatient clinic offers longitudinal care for patients with HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, allowing fellows to observe disease progression and therapeutic outcomes over time. This experience spans a minimum of 24 months and includes the ongoing management of HIV-infected patients.
