Welcome to the GME Department
Thank you for your interest in training at Broward Health. Residency and fellowship training is an exciting step in your medical career and we are glad that you are considering us as your home for that training. Here at Broward Health we believe in the mission of providing quality healthcare to the people that we serve. Broward County has an amazingly diverse population and that population is reflected in the patients that present to our hospitals and clinics.
No matter what your specialty interest is, we are confident that our training programs will prepare you to be an outstanding physician.
General Application Process
Thank you for your interest in Broward Health’s Residency and Fellowship Training Programs. All of Broward Health’s training programs are accredited by national accrediting bodies. If you are interested in becoming a Broward Health resident or fellow, please look at the page for that specific program. Most of our programs utilize the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Broward Health Programs in the fellowship matches begin interviewing in the summer and are completed by September of each year.

Broward Health Programs participating in the Main Match start interviews in late September and are completed by the end of January.
Each training program may have additional application requirements. Details can be found in the individual training program pages.
Match Process
Broward Health is proud to participate in several match programs. The match varies by the specialty of the program. Broward Health is an all-in sponsoring institution. If a match is offered for a specialty program, we participate in that match for all applicants to our programs. We do not make offers to students outside of the match. Some programs may participate in more than one match.

SCC Fellowship applications are accepted via the Surgical critical care and Acute care surgery Fellowship Application Service (SAFAS)

After Match day, you will receive information from the coordinator for your program including a link to log into the Broward Health Electronic Residency Management System to complete your on-boarding checklist requirements. This information will detail the process to become a Broward Health employee and resident physician. You will receive an offer letter and/or a resident employment agreement. The coordinator will assist you in setting up a pre-employment and employee health appointment. Each resident is extended an offer of appointment and employment that is conditional on passing all aspects of the pre-employment process.
Pre-employment Process
Electronic On-Boarding Checklist
You will receive an email from your program coordinator with instructions on how to access and complete your electronic on-boarding checklist. Each item on this list is required, per the checklist instructions for candidates to commence orientation and their program.
Background check
A pre-employment background investigation will be conducted on candidates for whom an offer of employment is being considered. Please complete the form in your electronic on-boarding checklist in order to start the background check process.
Physical Examination
All newly-appointed residents must complete and pass an employment physical examination, as required by the State Health Department, within 30 days of the date of employment.
Urine Drug Screen
All new Broward Health employees must pass a drug screen as outlined in the Broward Health Drug Free Workplace Policy, no more than 30 days prior to employment. A urine sample will be collected during the physical for a drug test.
Immunizations
Immunization updates for diphtheria / tetanus / pertussis (DTP), measles / mumps / rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox) and hepatitis B. This may include vaccination and/or lab titers for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella or hepatitis B,
TB Screening
New residents will begin tuberculosis surveillance testing. This includes either a 2-step TB skin test (TST) or for residents with a past positive TB skin test, the completion of a tuberculosis surveillance questionnaire and a baseline Chest x-ray. Participation in the TB surveillance program is completed annually. Residents will complete TB mask fit testing. New residents may submit a current TB test, valid through June 30 of the applicable year as the first step to the two-step process
Licensure
All Broward Health residents and fellows must have a valid, active full license and or permit to attend orientation and/or commence their training program.
Salary and Benefits for Residents and Fellows
Broward Health residents and fellows are full time employees of the hospital system. This provides for a comprehensive salary and benefits program for a residents and fellows.
